Louis de Funes

Born 31 July 1914
Died 27 January 1983
The legendary French comedian actor
  • Louis de Funes was born in July 31, 1914 in Courbevoie, in a Spanish aristocrats family from Seville. Father - Carlos Luis de Funès de Galarza, worked as a professional lawyer, but became a diamonds cutter when he moved to France. His mother was with Spanish and Portuguese roots. The parents moved to France in 1904, when their families were against their marriage.

  • For a long time de Funes worked as a bookkeeper, furrier and even shoeshine boy. Nevertheless, de Funes had the bias to piano. Seriously engaged sometimes he wrote his own music. Even in youth he appeared on the Paris Club stage in the role of comedian. He really liked it and he could show it to the public.

  • Before coming to the cinema he wrote to the dramatic course SIMON. There he played a romantic young people. Such roles he clearly didn't like, so he leaves the course and engaged in music again.

During the Paris occupation in World War II, Louis de Funes was learning to play the piano in music school. De Funes was not ready for military action, as evidenced by his weight of 55 kg. That extremely disappointed and embarrassed him. Thus he didn't get into the army. But, nevertheless, Louis experienced the fear of death. Literally in the first days of occupation German soldier fell in a restaurant where he worked and ordered him to sing the voice of Marlene Dietrich. Perhaps, from this moment Louis finally decided to become a comedian. He is perfectly mastered this role and German soldiers decided to save the life of the future comedian.

  • The fact that he can become a comedian, de Funes convinced by making laugh his beloved wife and few friends. Roles in the theater were tiny, so he had to earn money in nightclubs. However, some of the audience he was able to bring to the hiccups, and one elderly gentleman laughed so hard during the Louis concert that he almost died of a heart attack.

  • However, soon he received a call from Claude Zidi with a proposal to play in the film "L' Aile Ou La Cuisse". It was salvation for de Funes. After some time he agreed and started shooting.

  • "L' Aile Ou La Cuisse" was funny, interesting, exciting story with an original and wonderful sense of humor. Louis de Funes and Coluche, so different and not similar comedians perfectly complement each other, creating on the screen bright and unusual actors tandem.

  • A wonderful film, a classic French comedy. It is extremely tasty movie, with a pleasant aroma of first-class humor, with a spicy, intriguing flavor of adventure. For the real gourmets. Claude Zidi sang by his film the present national anthem of French cuisine, this food, and the popularity of the movie are a triumph of good taste.

  • After there were another few pictures, among which continued adventures of gendarmes. The film " Le Gendarme Et Les Gendarmettes" was the last film in his film career.

  • Louis de Funes and a detachment of gendarmes loyal, as always, to win enemies and criminals, this time making it so enchanting, and loudly, that when the final credits, even tear shudders. Overblown film and pops up in the memory of excerpts, dramatic moments and staff, that catch the eye immediately, and stored for a long time.

  • Louis de Funes acted with his son - Olivier. Apparently, Oliver didn't like this sphere, but because of his father's will, he had to do it. As a result, Olivier starred in six films, then the sky called him and he became a pilot.

  • During the occupation of Paris in the Second World War, he continued his piano studies at a music school, where he fell in love with a secretary, Jeanne Barthelémy de Maupassant, a grandniece of the famous author Guy de Maupassant. She had fallen in love with "the young man who played jazz like god".
  • They married in 1943 and remained together for forty years, until Funès' death in 1983.
  • They had two sons: Patrick (born on January 27, 1944) and Olivier (born on August 11, 1947). Patrick became a doctor who now practices in Saint-Germain en Laye. Olivier became an actor for a brief while. He became known for the roles he had in his father's films (Les Grandes VacancesFantômas se déchaineOscarLe Grand RestaurantHibernatusare the most famous). He is now an aviator for Air France Europe.
  • Louis de Funes was a rather mysterious person. 47-year-old son - Olivier talked about his father: "He was a pure aristocrat, who loved his own and only wife, liked fishing and grow roses. He did not like the noisy, everyday lives. It was seemed he was living in his own world, trying not  to allow others to touch this world".

A week before his death, Louis told his wife: "I know what will be my very good joke." - "What?" - "My funeral. I have to play it so that they nicker not stop ... "
Louis de Funes died Jan. 27, 1983. His last words were an appeal to his wife in which he said: "I miss one in my room ...". On this "Donald Duck" epic was finished.
